Principal difficulties by Jeannot Germain
(president of the VEO 2000 la Plagne club):

The start: Even if the start is very fast, never panic. 110kms is a very long way and all sorts of things always happen!!
From les Esserts up to the Pas des Brebis you must find a steady cruising pace as it is uphill all the way (some flat or slightly downhill parts for recovery, but very few). Enjoy the view of the ridges!!!

From Becoin to Plagne Centre, descent on trails then a mountain road with a little scree.
From Plagne Centre to Champagny. Climb to les Quillis - fairly loose surface - then downhill through alpine pastures and After going through the village there is a very steep climb to gain height then the bottom of the valley is fairly flat for 10km.
The climb to the Col du Palet is done by stages but is not too demanding.
Descent to the Chalet de Rosuel quite technical in places but not dangerous.
The climb back up to Plan Bois is long and peaceful without major difficulty.
From Plan Bois to the Arpette, it’s very steep!!! Save your energy!!
From the Arpette down to the valley is a generally steep descent with a lot more loose surface areas than in past years particularly towards the finish.
Make a point of looking around you, the landscape is magnificent and truly worthy of a post card!!

Supporters can go and watch the runners at the points shown in the Road Book.
Please note that the Col du Palet can only be reached via the resort of Tignes.
